The Old Testament is filled to the brim with references for God’s caring attitude towards the orphan and widow. But why should we be responsible for the unfortunate circumstances of orphans and widows? Because it is important to God, and as devotees of our Deity, it should be important to us as well. Without the stability of a two-parent household, economic troubles can overwhelm a family, leaving them without shelter or food and in need of help. Orphans and widows (and by extension, single parents) are perhaps amongst the more vulnerable of people groups. THEOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF WIDOWS AND ORPHANS
